It is cultivated as an ornamental plant for its beautiful green leaves, herbal aromas, richly flowering flowers and red fruit reaching 5-6 meters. Velvet evodia is characterized by a spherical crown with shoots raised upwards. The trunk has numerous stems, abundantly covered with intensely green leaves. It produces large leaves growing up to 30 cm. The bark is light gray in color and has a smooth finish. Its branches and leaves are covered with « velvety » fluff. Hence its name, ewodia velvet. It blooms from August to September.
